1. How does the design that you created demonstrate your knowledge of playing card design?
The design I created for this project demonstrates my knowledge of playing card design through my use of symmetry. On the top of the card, I incorporated radial symmetry through the symbols. The symbols are well balanced and give a symmetrical look. I also showed my knowledge through the use of borders. A staple piece to all playing cards. I used my top design as the border on my picture and number card.
2. How would the rest of the deck look? What would you do for the other picture cards? Please describe in detail?
The rest of the deck would also have an eighties theme. For the number cards, I would have other iconic things from the eighties such as a cassette tape, a rubik's cube, leg warmers, and gameboys. These images would appear for the number on the card. For the picture cards I would have Michael Jackson as the King, an 80s logo as the Ace, and Max Headroom as the Joker; they would appear just as the Madonna appears as the Queen.
3. How does your design demonstrate your knowledge of adobe illustrator?
This design shows my knowledge of Adobe Illustrator through the techniques I used. Through my use of clipping masks I was able to shape the border and the Madonna. I also used the knife tool to slice Madonna in half and the shape tools to create my entire top card. Along with the shape tool, I used the gradient tool to create my color scheme.
4. What do you feel was the most challenging part of this project and why?
The most challenging part of this project was unifying my cards. At first my cards looked completely different and unrelated. After I applied my color scheme to all of the shapes and added a border to my cards, they started to look unified.
5. If you can change one requirement what would it be and why?
I would change the random choosing of the theme for the cards. Although this made the project more interesting, some topics were very challenging and it would have been interesting to see what everybody would come up with on their own.
